“Grodzka Gate - NN Theatre” Centre and Rootka Tours invite you for the Jewish heritage study tour to Lublin and the Lublin Region.

July 30th, Lublin, Arrival in Lublin

Arrival in Lublin before 5 p.m.*, check-in, Grodzka 20 Hotel
An introduction to the programme
A welcome dinner
*An optional tour to the State Museum at Majdanek at 12.00 p.m.

July 31st, Lublin

Breakfast at the hotel
A visit to the “Grodzka Gate - NN Theatre” Centre
A walking tour around Lublin
- The area of the former Jewish District, teh Old Town, Yeshivat Chachmei Lublin, the Old Jewish Cemetery, and Chevra Nosim Synagogue

Dinner. Night in Lublin

August 1st, Leczna - Wlodawa - Kock

Breakfast at the hotel
A full day program:
- Leczna: the old synagogue

- Wlodawa: the synagogue complex: the Great Synagogue, Small Synagogue and Beth Ha-Midrash

- Kock: the Jewish cemetery and the reconstructed Ohel of the Kocker Tzadik, the grave of the famous colonel Berek Joselewicz, the Museum of the History of Kock and the parish museum of religions of the town

Dinner. Night in Lublin

August 2nd, Zamosc - Jozefow - Szczebrzeszyn

Breakfast at the hotel
A full day program:
- Zamosc: the renaissance main square (UNESCO World Heritage site), the Jewish quarter in the old town and the renaissance synagogue (today cultural centre), the building of the mikvah

For the second part of the day you can choose between two options:

Option 1: Jozefow - Szczebrzeszyn
- Jozefow: the synagogue building (today a library), Jewish cemetery, execution site and the memorial in the forest

- Szczebrzeszyn: the synagogue building (today a cultural centre), Jewish cemetery and the memorial for the victims of mass executions on the site

Option 2: Belzec
- Belzec: the memorial on the area of the death camp, the museum and the commandant’s building

Dinner. Night in Lublin

August 3rd, Kazimierz Dolny

Breakfast at the hotel
A full day program:
- Kazimierz Dolny: the synagogue (nowadays museum), the Jewish cemetery and the lapidarium, the main square and its historical buildings and the Three Crosses Hill (viewpoint to the town and the Vistula river)

Tour ends around 2 p.m. Travel back to Lublin*
* Optional transfer from Kazimierz Dolny to Warsaw

 
The tour expert is Emil Majuk, a political scientist and culture expert, since 2005 professionally related to the “Grodzka Gate – NN Theatre” Centre in Lublin; coordinator of the project “Shtetl Routes. Vestiges of Jewish cultural heritage in cross-border tourism. Poland, Belarus, Ukraine”. Chairman of the Panorama of Cultures Association. Editor of publications: “Scraps of Memory. Multicultural Past of Wojsławice Community” (2005), “Working with difficult memory in local communities. Polish-Ukrainian exchange of experience” (2010), “Jewish Traces in the Lublin Region” (2012). Curator of the topic “Cultural heritage” at the Eastern Europe Initiatives Congress (2014-2016).

The tour leader is Joanna Krauze, a co-founder of Rootka Tours and an experienced guide, specializing in the Jewish history of Lublin and the region. She is a graduate in political science, Jewish studies and psychology of social communication, passionate about education, commemoration and collective memory of the Holocaust in Poland and Israel.
